New single: PLEASANTS || Losing Streak/Sick Sad Situation

Late '70s goodness by Al Uminium (aka Alex "Human Fly" Patching of Aborted Tortoises, Ghoulies, and Dennis Cometti)

Well, in a clear case of pretty terrible timing, one day after I shared my favorite short format releases of the year, Perth pogo mayhem igniters PLEASANTS have served up a perfect dessert to their hypeworthy full-length debut. The band, built around Al Uminium (aka Alex “Human Fly” Patching of Aborted Tortoises, Ghoulies, and Dennis Cometti), recorded and mixed two songs at home, which are at the pressing plant right now and should be available as a 7″ at Under The Gun Records early next year.

The two new tracks Losing Streak and Sick Sad Situation are a little less frantic and hyperactive than most of what is on Rocanrol In Mono. I’d almost say they offer a bit more nuance, but rest assured, they are both mighty fine slabs of late ’70s punk, with some clever and sharp songwriting as a welcome bonus. Okay, the single is one day late to be included in my year-end list, but I am sure it will sit nicely in my collection beside that Circulators LP that came out last month. What a time to be alive, huh?
