Your Favorite Person is actually a band from Woodstock, New York, featuring Matthew Brady (vocals, guitar), Nighttrain Schickele (vocals, guitar), Luke Hansen (vocals, bass) and Ben Hansen (drums). There’s a lot going on in the twelve songs on their debut full-length In a World That’s Always Ending, came into existence from a garage on the hill. It’s a ramshackle mix of garage rock and pop punk with hints of grunge and psych, varying in tempo and intensity, with ragged riffs and raw vocals—for example, don’t judge Sun Song just by the first minute and a half, but also by what comes after.

Fitting perfectly, the rich, dark and at times poetic lyrics on this record come across as a patchwork of brutally honest diary confessions, sharp observations on growing up, and random thoughts about daily worries. Goosebumps are not common with this kind of music, but unavoidable here: “Annie got so angry, and turned up inside // She ate a box of matches and drank pesticides // And on one fateful morning, she looked up to the sky // And started flying higher than the walls that she climbed and shined.” All in all, this is a fascinating and intriguing ride – almost an hour in total – that is both street tough and tenderhearted.
