Dan Webb and the Spiders has essentially become a solo project, with Webb pushing his creative boundaries and honing his recording skills, having worked with the late, great Steve Albini. But despite the shift, the band still makes rare live appearances. Their only live show in 2024 at Faces Taproom in Malden, MA, was captured on tape and is now out as Live at Faces.
Normally, I’m not a huge fan of live albums, but this one stands out. First off, the setlist! Webb pulls tracks all the way back from 2009 (Carried Away) and adds newer gems like Breaks from his 2023 EP Well Well. The energy is palpable, and they even throw in a killer cover of The Nerves’ Many Roads to Follow.
With live shows from DWatS being so rare, this album is the next best thing to being there. Rock on, Dan Webb!
