With No Hard Feelings, New York City-based singer-songwriter Emily Frembgen delivers a timeless indie-folk album. Its nine subdued, country-tinged songs explore the artist’s past and the echoes of alienation that inform her present. The words from the beautiful opening track Are You Listening? keep ringing in my head (“How does it matter? What does it mean? Is it important? Are you listening?”), but the other reflections are also moving, not least because of the wonderful vocals. This record is musically classy and compelling, lyrically intimate and intriguing, atmospherically melancholic and emotional.
No Hard Feelings is out now digitally and on vinyl LP through Don Giovanni Records.
