New post: Tuxedo Cats || Fake Punk

NYC super group Tuxedo Cats unleash another seismic rock’n’roll gem

We get an insane amount of (admittedly self-inflicted) Bandcamp notification emails every day, but few this year made me want to drop everything as fast as seeing this: “Tuxedo Cats just released Fake Punk, check it out here.”

If the name rings a bell, it’s because Tuxedo Cats are kind of a NYC supergroup, featuring members of Apache, Bare Wires, Dancer, and Tough Shits, along with influential punk illustrator Avi Spivak. Their 2022 debut EP Out Of The Bag seemingly came out of nowhere, aligning stars to create a major explosion in the worlds of glam, power pop, and rock’n’roll. Now, it’s 2024, and I think we’re ready for another seismic event courtesy of the band.

The Fake Punk 7″ (out on New York Punk Records) is a ’70s-leaning glammy garage rock’n’roll record played with the effortless swagger of true rock stars. This four-track EP is all killer, no filler. Frenchin’ is a straight-up fun tune filled with what feels like French phrases you randomly pick up on the street. Wrong Or Right is fast-paced late ’70s pop-punk. Jaguar K-11 is a 90-second hand grenade that explodes with hooks and guitar licks the moment you hit play. And finally, Wait And See could go head-to-head with the best power pop bands around.

If you’re after a rock’n’roll good time, Tuxedo Cats should be your go-to band!
