Barron Harley, a prolific singer-songwriter from South Africa, showcases his versatility and talent with his latest EP, Ultimate Joy And Good Times Forever. From his work with Hated Related, we already knew he posesses a great voice for rock’-‘roll music, one he also showcased with his one-man project Ugly Boyfriend. Right now, he simply releases as Barron Harley.
I am thoroughly enjoying this four-track EP, which offers a collection of semi-acoustic outsider pop songs that are unpolished, gentle, and raw – though not necessarily all at once. The sound evokes comparisons to Okkervil River and Pavement, blending elements of alt-country and slack-ish indie rock.
Each track on Ultimate Joy And Good Times Forever reveals Harley’s knack for crafting engaging tunes that stick with you. If you enjoy this EP, be sure to check out his equally impressive EP released in April as well.
