Lou’s Rendezvous is the lo-fi garage pop project of Florida-based musician Lou Koster (Bona Roba, Choke City). On the first day of this year he released the 8-track Bear LP, which he now follows up with two new earworm songs. Both Your Old Ways (featuring Neal Carlson on backing vocals) and Don’t Mind Mine are basically primitive and ramshackle tunes – in our world that is commendable – but somehow they are so cleverly constructed that the repeat button is necessary again and again. Whether it’s the atmospheric bells or the infectious harmonies or the effective guitar licks or the appealing lyrics or the Jonathan Richman-esque charisma, it works very well.
