I haven’t gained much knowledge about Atlanta three-piece Half Smile since I last wrote about them. I do know this: their new album Sleeping On The Rope is pretty damn good.
Half Smile play college rock that leans heavily towards ’90s alt pop and has a subtle touch of classic power pop as well. On Sleeping On The Rope, the band floats and jangles gently but surely knows how to rock out. The lo-fi production gives Half Smile a garage-y charm, but to my ears, the ten songs ooze late Summer beach vibes with their warm and hazy sound. Poppy for sure, though never excessively saccharine, Half Smile serves as a prime example of the hidden gems within today’s musical landscape. Definitely worth checking out!
