The title of the previous album by Californian freakbeat enforcers Th’ Losin Streaks was This Band Will Self-Destruct In T-Minus (2018), and since they had previously broken up in 2010, it wasn’t obvious that we would ever hear from them again. Good news: here’s their new (third) LP, Last House, and it sounds as lively as can be. We get no less than fifteen songs – about true love, good times, bad decisions, getting old and other important transiences – captured in raw garage rock rooted in the 60s. Whether it’s the raucous stompers like I Mean You or Shiver and Shake, the surfy instrumentals like The Slink or Dyer Lane, the cover of The Weeds’ It’s Your Time, or the acoustic ballad For A While, it’s all equally exciting. Mike Farrell, Tim Foster, Brian Machado and Stan Tindall are beyond self-destruction, and we can only be grateful for that.
Last House is out now digitally and on vinyl LP through Slovenly Recordings. Also featuring Tim Green and Anton Barbeau on selected tracks.
