New album: Tabaco || Canciones Póstumas

Tabaco from Seville (Spain) debut with a 13-song Tape called Canciones Póstumas. It came out yesterday, and I’m already on my fourth spin while writing this post. If you draw a line from punk rock to post punk, Tabaco operate somewhere at the midpoint, and Canciones Póstumas is the kind of record that could resonate with fans on either side of the spectrum. The songs have dark undertones and are played agressively, but they are full of melody as well – supported by a tight rhythm section with throbbing bass lines in the front of the mix.

With only the final trio of songs surpassing the two-minute mark, Tabaco keeps their songs short yet suspenseful and interesting and I never feel the need to skip a song. It’s part of the reason why I keep returning to the record, back for another dose.

Canciones Póstumas is out now on Polze de la Mort (Benissa) and Andalucía Über Alles (Sevilla).
