The Evening Sons (Brighton, UK) were born out of a mutual love for Cheap Trick and Big Star. I guess that makes them a power pop band by design. And yet they play a brand that some would argue isn’t power pop at all. To my ears their debut album Tracks, which is out now on Curation Records, is just as much ‘90s alt pop and college rock. Let’s say I haven’t heard an UK band sound this American recently.
Above all, Tracks is a wonderful debut of hooky guitar driven songs that is beach ready, and road trip compatible. The Evening Sons’ knack for finding interesting melodies and sideways on well trodden paths is admirable.
