Contagious punch-the-air folk-punk. Socially conscious storytelling. Anti-conformity, anti-authoritarianism. It isn’t that difficult to describe what London-based singer/songwriter/guitarist Katie MF stands for, but she executes it in a surprising and forceful way. After two EPs – Learning How to Lie (2018) and Everything Trouble Meant (2019) – she has now released her full-length debut album, False Starts, Open Endings. Musically it’s quite diverse, from raucous guitar rock to foot stomping pop punk and even a ballad, always with uncompromising lyrics, intense vocals and passionate drumming (Tobias Alexandar). Heavy stuff, but somehow uplifting and comforting that we’re not the only ones worried.
False Starts, Open Endings, engineered & produced by Nick Harris, is out now digitally and on vinyl LP through Lockjaw Records.
