A good buddy of mine has recently fallen into an Instagram rabbit hole of hardcore show footage. He keeps sending me these videos of the wildest moshpits and the craziest stagedives. And while it motivates a certain part of me to dig up my all-time favorite hardcore records to relive that spirit, I prefer to point out that are also exciting new bands to scratch the itch for something fast, loud and intense.
My favorite over the weekend was Be My Vengeance, the debut 12″ by Denver hardcorepunks Destiny Bond – an outfit that started just five years ago. If you’ve ever been into hardcorepunk, regardless of specific subgenres, Destiny Bond are sure to hit one or several chords. You’ll recognize familiar elements, but as a whole Be My Vengeance feels like a breath of fresh air – or smelling salt, depending on your taste. Destiny Bond take a base of classic American hardcorepunk, and add elements from more modern hardcore bands with an emotional edge, never losing out of sight that hardcore can be fun as well as songs like Kinetic, Losin’ and The Glow attest.
Be My Vengeance is out now though Convulse Records.
