New album: Jake Pinto || Sad Songs For Happy People

In the summer of 2020, I added Home by one Jake Pinto to my holiday road trip playlist, very suitable in terms of both sound and message (“It’s been so long // I’ve been alone // So I’m going home”). As it turns out, it’s a New York City-based singer-songwriter / multi-instrumentalist, and there’s more where that wonderful funky single came from. On his full-length debut album Sad Songs For Happy People, finally released last week, you’ll hear eleven indie pop songs with a 70s feel, incorporating influences from crooners and jazz. Although the lyrics are not always cheerful (hence the title), this melancholic LP still radiates a lot of sunshine. I’m considering Sit And Listen or Just Another Minute for the upcoming vacation.

Sad Songs For Happy People is out now digitally through Mother West. Add to wantlist: Bandcamp
