“Cold night! // Hold tight! // You got me hanging on the promise of a better life! // What’s right // Is this fight // We’re dancing on the edge of a switchblade knife.” There’s no ignoring it, The Bar Stool Preachers are back with sharp observations and important advice: “Don’t Die Today.” For their new (third) full-length album Above The Static, the UK ska-punk six-piece recorded twelve new tracks, pushing the boundaries of the genre (ballads! doo-wop influences!), but they leave no room for any misunderstanding about how much fun they had to get to this result. Catchy (infectious “woo-hoo” choruses) and humorous (captivating lyrics), this record is way above average.
Above The Static, produced by Ben Hannah, is out now digitally, on CD and vinyl LP through Pure Noise Records.
