Of all the things I associate with Vienna, prime quality powerpop is nowhere near the top. Bad Weed are on a mission to change that perception, and based on their new (sophomore) LP, which is simply called II, they will quickly succeed. The songs of Bad Weed have elements of the garage pop sound of Burger Records but are also reminiscent of ’70s UK pop punk bands like Undertones and Buzzcocks, and I have to assume the three piece are huge fans of Nerves. On II, this sound is best described as power pop, that is sometimes quite jangly, but mostly upbeat, energetic and catchy. A truly fun record that is instantly likeable.
