Throwback Thursday: Oh No & the Tiger Pit || The Concert For Healey Gabison: Live At Union Hall

A while ago we raved about Guerrilla Monzón, a kind of continuation of Oh No & the Tiger Pit, of whom they also covered the song Pronto. You can now watch and listen to the Oh No’s original in all its glory, because one of their last live performances ever – recorded on January 20, 2012 – has now been released as a remastered digital EP. The Concert for Healey Gabison was a benefit concert to raise money for their friend Healey’s medical treatments, featuring multiple bands. The six tracks Oh No & the Tiger Pit played are energetic, raw and exciting, the show climaxing in a raucous version of The Temptations’ Get Ready. It feels like you are there yourself.

Oh No & The Tiger Pit were Ben Mattison (vocals, guitar), Jason Sanchez (lead guitar, vocals), Eric Gordon (bass, vocals), and Evan Mitchell (drums, vocals). They started as a cover band (The Sonics, The Clash, etc.), and gradually shifted towards originals. They were active in Gainesville from 2005-2007 and recorded two albums (Ripped Out My Heart and Radio Gaga) there, and then they all moved up to New York, recorded another album (Second Helping) and played all over Brooklyn and Manhattan. After slowing down in 2012, the musicians started working on something new together back in 2017, but that didn’t get past the demo stage. During the pandemic they re-released two previous albums, also put out a 2-song single with leftovers and a big messy album of iPhone and iPod Touch recordings of band practices they never properly recorded and released (Half Baked). And now there is this live show!

I asked Jason if we could ever expect new music: “We still want to do it! We’re all still very good friends and we talk about playing together somewhat regularly. My hope was we could get enough people re-interested in the and with this album to make a reunion worthwhile.” So you know what to do.

The Concert For Healey Gabison: Live At Union Hall is out digitally via Manu Ginobeats Records. The proceeds go to charity (2BCured).
