New album: The Great Awake || Quit

Australia is home to some of the finest past and current punk bands in history. Listen to last Sunday’s WFMU Born Too Late Aussie Punk Special to get an idea. While a lot of those bands go for an authentic, intense and aggressive brand of punk, here’s an excellent release from Down Under from a band I would place in the melodic punkrock and orgcore movement. They are called The Great Awake , a name I assume they took from the eponymous 2007 Flatliners LP. Count that band among the influences of The Great Awake. Spanish Love Songs and Lawrence Arms also come to mind. The band’s latest record Quit contains twelve heartfelt melodic punkrock tunes that aren’t too heavy on the ears but still rock out pretty hard. The songs have massive singalong potential as well, and I bet the live shows of The Great Awake are always a great hang.
