Dutch garage rock outfit Teenage Icon debuted at the end of 2021 with the single X-Ray Eyes, which they followed up last November with the 7-track EP Remember Forever. From this week it will also be physically available on cassette, a good reason to share the release with you now, although I also considered it a stimulus that I woke up this weekend with the chorus of opening song I’ll Be The One in my head. Songwriter Ben van Oosterom (vocals, guitar), Gijs van der Leeden (percussion), Jorian Pronk (bass) and Bas van der Leeden (lead guitar) provide melodic sunbeams in the tradition of 60s Nederbeat, with a youthful naivety (check out the mischief in their videos and you’ll know what I mean) and a clear sound. The ambitions of the band are obvious, this is a promising start.
