It’s not entirely clear if this new 4-track collection from Spanish rock ‘n’ roll trio Kinki Boys is officially called Ahora (that’s the title on streaming services) of simply E.P. (on Bandcamp), or maybe it’s even a self-titled one (you’d expect that based on the cover art), but actually it doesn’t really matter as long as you can find the music. Vila Berenguer (drums, vocals), Marga Alday (bass, vocals) and Mikel Garcia Mancho (guitar, vocals) fuse timeless garage rock (hooky guitar riffs and choruses that you can easily sing along to) with dark 80s post-punk (compelling synths influenced by Siouxsie and The Banshees) and the result is more appealing than you might expect. Lead single Mi Santidad is the hit here (“Uh-Uh”), but the other tunes just might win in the long run.
