Boys will be boys, and the title and cover photo of Old Enough To Know Better capture that in a great way (reminiscent of movies like The Hangover and Druk). It’s the full-length debut album from Berlin-based Scottish-Ecuadorian four-piece Ponte Pilas, a really nice one. Calum Bolland (vocals, guitar), Daniel Rivera (drums), Ismael Rivera (lead guitar) and Alejandro Iturralde (bass) wrote eleven delightful and catchy rock ‘n’ roll songs – hits! – about stepping away from the carefree younger days towards a perhaps duller but more fulfilling future. They span the playing field somewhere between indie rock and power pop, but also incorporate doo-wop, Britpop and punk-funk influences. What makes this record so irresistible, is the combination of surprising hooks, exciting guitar riffs, driving rhythm section, edgy vocals and witty lyrics. Growing up has never sounded so much fun.
