New album: Bibi Club || Le Soleil et La Mer

Bibi Club is the “living room party music” project of singer-keyboardist Adèle Trottier-Rivard (Plants and Animals) and guitarist Nicolas Basque. The Canadian duo – real-life lovers – have just released their debut album Le Soleil et La Mer, featuring eight idiosyncratic indie pop songs that would be perfect to soundtrack idiosyncratic arthouse movies. The intriguing record starts out dreamy and hypnotic, until track 3 has you bouncing with jangling guitars and la la la harmony vocals – what an amazing, addictive song Parasite is! Now that your attention has been drawn, the other tunes won’t let you go. The combination between the repetitive lo-fi guitar melodies, warm keyboard sounds, mesmerizing French vocals and alienating soundscapes makes you – lost in translation – hallucinate and boogie at the same time. The songs were reportedly written with kids playing in a chaotic city in mind, while it’s summertime (come out and dance!), but instinctively this music must work just as well during a sultry night, probably even better.

Le Soleil et La Mer is out now digitally, on CD and vinyl LP through Secret City Records.
