New album: The Photocopies || Pop Trivia

Since June 2021, Michigan-based Londoner Sean Turner is rapidly sharing new music online under the moniker of The Photocopies, which we have written about only once before, but which we have followed with great pleasure. The cover art and lyric videos are always primitive and identical, just old-fashioned typewriter text photocopied, but the songs are originals, diverse and engaging – both musically and vocally pleasant to listen to. The limited edition 2-CD Pop Trivia, which we should actually see as three albums – Greatest Hits Volume 1 (tracks 1-15), Et Cetera: B-sides & More (tracks 16-30) and Greatest Hits Volume 2 (tracks 31-45) – now brings together 45 tunes. Basically you hear jangly or fuzzy indie pop building on the C86 and Sarah Records sound, captured in short, cheerful and often catchy songs, with relatable lyrics that you can sing along in no time. “Sha La La La La La La La La (Sha La La La La La)” – if this doesn’t make you happy, I don’t know what will.

Pop Trivia is out now digitally and on CD through Subjangle. [Update: Unfortunately the CDs sold out quickly, but the 3 albums will be released separately on digital platforms: 1, 2, 3.]
