Shorter, Faster, Louder || July Hardcore Wrap-up

Though the majority of my posts are punk and garage leaning, I also listen to music that push the boundaries and expectations of this blog. I am talking about music that is a bit more extreme in terms of length, speed, and loudness. It’s the kind of music that may scare or disturb some, or met with plain disinterest by others, but I believe are still worth checking out. Each month I wrap-up those releases in one post: Shorter, Faster, Louder.

Big Bopper || Introducing Big Bopper
Big Bopper could be the name of an extreme rollercoaster in a theme park. The music of this weird protopunk Texas band offers a similar thrill, it’s full of unexpected twists and turns and brings plenty of amusement.

Chivàla || EP II
Very solid four song emo/screamo/post hardcore EP from Bari (Italy). Cool art direction as well on this one sided 12″.

Cosmic Joke || Demo
LA melodic hardcorepunkband Cosmic Joke opt for the classic ‘underpromise and overdeliver’ approach on their first release, the 5 track Demo.

Demonios || Demonios

Demonios are a band of four who play old school punk that is loud, in your face and fully sung in Spanish. No Hay Tiempo and Escapar are the two highlights for me.

Instep || Demo 2021
Montreal band Instep sound heavily infuenced by the melodic hardcore of Lifetime and Kid Dynamite, two bands I have an absolute soft spot for. This demo is a great first taste of the band!

ΜΠΡΙΤΖΟΛΙΤΣΕΣ || ΑΙΣΧΟΣ ΝΤΡΟΠΗ
One of those bands where running the lyrics through Google Translate only adds to the confusion. That’s ok though, musically this punk duo is pretty weird as well.

Ready Armed System || Demo

Insanely fast and agressive hardcoreband from Austin, Texas with a healthy dose of youth crew. Featuring members of Violent Christians.

Shitbots & CEO || DIGITAL / TAPE
Two acts from the same person (Brian from Demon’s Claws and Primitive Hands). Really lo-fi and raw, but also very melodic and soulful garagepunk’n’roll. The Shitbots side includes two covers by Negative Approach and The Dogs. The CEO side provides Stooges swagger but als more mellowness.

Sterilize || Demo XXX

New straight-edge hardcore band from Atlanta. One to keep an eye on.

Tight Grip || Idle Minds
Razor sharp melodic hardcore from Cincinatti.

Wails || Killer Wails

Garagepunk from Stockholm with a singer that screams the band into hardcore territory.
