Do The Etters get lost in translation? Sonically, this Dutch threesome plays budget garage punk that’s as filthy as a fry joint floor at 3 a.m. But the real damage is done with the lyrics. This is absolutely NSFW material, well at least if you have Dutch co-workers within earshot. It’s nasty, sure, but it’s also genuinely funny, and against all odds, deceptively smart in its wording.
Case in point: a song titled Er is niks aan jou dat ik niet haat (which translates to There’s nothing about you I don’t hate), which unfolds like a deranged nursery rhyme stuffed with gleeful depravity. You’ll laugh, you’ll cringe, you might feel slightly unclean, but you’ll remember it.
ICYM: The Etters are Jerry Hormones’ (The Apers) full return to juvenile delinquent punk mode, joined by Coco Cocaïne’s Luna Becking and Kate Oram. Their debut LP landed last year via Bachelor Records, and this new 7″ is a very limited follow-up on Fish & Cheap Records. Three songs, three minutes. Insanely catchy and utterly disgusting.
