Today, we’re excited to premiere A Thousand Couple Times, the debut LP from Model Martel. Fans of melodic punk rock will find plenty to love here — it’s a record that feels both classic and fresh. The band themselves describe it as “punk-ish,” and it’s easy to hear why: these songs could just as easily win over fans of alternative and indie rock as they can a punk crowd. The album officially drops on September 3 via Snappy Little Numbers, but you can stream it in full below starting today.
Model Martel features Tim Gill (guitar/vocals), Jason Utes (bass), Rozco/Chris Provchy (guitar), and Ryan Kelly (drums). You may recognize their names from bands like Echoes of Harpers Ferry, Worship This, Joy Ceiling, Sleeper Horse, Katër Mass, and Seafair. The four have been longtime friends, though life scattered them in different directions for years — thanks to musical opportunities, academic pursuits (including studying democracy-promotion efforts in South American countries), and even documentary work on cryptozoological creatures like Bigfoot (yes, really). But in 2024 the stars finally aligned, all four ended up in the same place again, and Model Martel was born.
The band name is a nod to pro wrestling legend Rick “The Model” Martel. “Three of us are huge wrestling fans,” Gill explains. “The fourth (Chris) often has to turn off our group chat during wrestling events.”
A Thousand Couple Times packs eleven concise, energetic tracks. Opener Green Hat showcases everything Model Martel do well: unpolished but powerful playing, hooks with punch, and the heartfelt, slightly ragged vocal delivery of Tim Gill. The record is free of filler — every track feels purposeful. Songs like Mitt (video here), Planet Earth, and Ozempic are great entry points, but the whole thing flows with a dynamic, melodic drive that keeps pulling you back.
And this is only the beginning. “We have half of another full-length written and are actively working on the other half,” Gill says. “We’re planning to hit the studio in early 2026 to record another album. We aren’t getting any younger and the world is likely ending soon, so we’re on it.”
