“The billionaire rides a silver rocket to the moon
I don’t know why he can live that life while the rest of us are scraping by.” (Bitter)
The new ZEPHR LP, Past Lives, feels strangely fitting for the times we’re in. Whether intentional or not, its ominous and timely lines hit differently right now.
For all the frustration, anxiety, and anger swirling around, punk rock is still one of the best outlets—and Past Lives absolutely delivers. It’s a melodic, emo-tinged punk record with an orgcore twist that hits hard in all the right ways. ZEPHR (Denver) takes those Revolution Summer vibes and adds an edge that’s as urgent as it is cathartic.
The lyrics feel personal but somehow universal at the same time. Lines like this from Another Year really stick:
“If I put my foot down
And cast aside my fears
Put a fire in the hearth
Will I last another year?”
With Past Lives, ZEPHR gives us a much-needed way to blow off steam in these overwhelming times.
Out now on LP via Snappy Little Numbers and Dumb Ghost Records.
