New album: Why Bother? || Serenading Unwanted Ballads

It’s easy to lose count of the number of songs Why Bother? have saturated the airwaves with since their first album in the Autumn of 2021. It’s much harder to ignore the sheer force of their music.

Why Bother? arguably is one the most inspired and original act in contemporary punk. Their new LP Serenading Unwanted Ballads (their fifth? Sixth?) is a particularly impressive one. Always keeping their audiences guessing, you never know in which honey pot this Mason City (Iowa) quartet has put their fingers now. They effortlessly go from protopunk to postpunk to new wave to no wave on their latest collection of songs. At times arty, and often moody. I am blown away how a band that releases this much music can touch touch upon so many different sonic directions, while never compromising on the quality of the output. Why Bother? isn’t just a band – they’re a manic force to be reckoned with.

Serenading Unwanted Ballads is out now at Feel It Records.
