New EP: Chatterbox || Night Calls

Cool new band alert! Meet Chatterbox, a quartet out of Portland, Oregon. And that…is about all the information I have on the band *. Fortunately, the music speaks for itself. Chatterbox present themselves as purveyors of classic rock as played by a punk band. The Replacements and Guided By Voices are points of reference we frequently use on our site, but in case of Chatterbox, both totally apply. They even cover a GBV classic (Game Of Pricks) as a fun bonus track to the three originals. I for one am excited about the emergence of these hard-to-google Portlandians. A cassette release of Night Calls is expected soon.

* But then I received an e-mail from Andy Place of ATW favorites Andy Place and the Coolheads. Chatterbox is his new band. The Coolheads are still alive as well, but we can anticipate more releases and live shows by Chatterbox soon.

OMG… I was part of an 80’s Band ‘Chatterbox’ in Seattle. We opened for another band called ‘Toys’ or ‘Boy Toys’. They signed with Label in LA and moved. Our band fell apart and I started new group. Shane, Joe, Don, Pat came over. We performed mostly Top 40 Covers from 70’s / 80’s / and more. Kevin Hunt and Glen Hunt employed some of them, including myself. Both have passed away.

Kevin Hunt owned a big house a block from work and rented it to the bands. I just called it the Band House… epic parties, BBQ, etc. I can tell you exactly where I was on Tuesday, January 28, 1986 at 8:39 Pacific Time (11:39 Eastern). I had to run to house and pickup some plans. Most of the guys had partied all night after playing and where sleeping. 1 guy was on couch in media room. TV was tuned to News covering Space Shuttle Challenger. We watched in amazement how fast it left the launch pad. But in less than 90 seconds it exploded, killing all astronauts onboard.

Now looking for Reunion of old members still alive and Re-Mastering some of our songs. Maybe record new Covers… under SJR Media Group. Even if we do nothing more, the memories of Seattle Rock Music will forever stay fresh in my mind.
