Jordan Jones’ self-titled 2019 album still is one of the finest power pop records of the past half-decade. If you loved that record as much as I did, I am curious what you think of his new LP And I, You, which is out now through Lolipop Records. The record marks a significant transition and may invite a new fanbase while raise the eyebrows of some longtime supporters.
What’s the deal with And I, You? Well, for one it’s piano driven rather than powered by guitars; it’s more easy listening than rockin and head boppin.’ There is still a heavy ’70s influence, but it appears to draw from ELO, Hall & Oats, and Todd Rundgren instead of 20/20, The Real Kids and The Plimsouls.
But is it any good? Sure, even when you prefer his power pop side, you have to admire the talent and class of Jordan Jones. And I, You is a highly ambitious record with orchestral arrangements, pretty harmonies and timeless classics in songs like Can I Stay and Love Song of J, and a heartbreaker of a closer in Love Or Lose.

I’m as torn as you seem to be. When I first saw it pop up and listened, I then had to do a bunch of searching to make sure this was indeed the same Jordan Jones. There’s not much info on him, he’s hopped labels, and hadn’t released anything in nearly 4 years. And the sound is so…different. That said, after repeated listens – and a bit of deprogramming to disassociate it from the first record that I love so much, I’m with you in that I really like it. A lot. Maybe he’s embarking on a Joe Jackson-like career, where you may not be able to even predict his next left turn. So much talent, and hope it’s not a long wait to see where he goes next!
Thanx for the comment, Rich. Well put, and I think we’re on the same page. Sometimes expectations can get in the way.
I think “And I, You” is stellar sophisti-pop – absolutely love it! But I came to it without having heard the S/T record, which I am on my way to download right now btw…
Sophisti-pop? Love that and I’m totally going to plagiarize it, Chip!
