Friends for life Calvin Halliday and James Hindle return as U.S. Highball for their fourth record in as many years. Firmly rooted in Scottish indie history, U.S. Highball have a large pop heart that fuels most of their songs. Never overly complicated, often upbeat and always on point, the average U.S. Highball track is a fun and effortless listen. No Thievery, Just Cool is no exception. The most noticeable difference from past records is the impressive support cast Halliday and Hindle have gathered, including Darren Hanlon, Alasdair Cook, Andrew Kelly, Shelley Short, Manda Rin, Helen Skinner & Kathy Wright and many others. These musicians all make a contribution in some form or other. Somewhere at the midpoint of the record Jacob Ewald (Slaughter Beach, Dog) joins the band for a cover of a Mr. T Experience song – a surprise pick in Big, Strange, Beautiful Hammer from Yesterday Rules. The pick illustrates the playful nature of this pleasant and jangly indie guitar pop record.
