Five years is a long period between releasing your first and second LP, but Silver Car Crash (Pittsburgh) is not your average band. It’s not like they stopped writing songs. In fact, they wrote most of the songs for their new LP Shattered Shine before 2020. But then the pandemic paused things for the band, who also struggled initially with recording the songs to their liking. All’s well that ends well though, because the record turned out pretty stellar. First and foremost, Shattered Shine is a diverse record. Part of that is by design: three of the band members write songs and sing on their own contributions. Meanwhile, Silver Car Crash appear to draw from the same influences as Parquet Courts and like to mix it up in terms of pace, agression, spontaneity and melody. All of that combined makes for an exciting and dynamic indie rock record.
