New album: Janelles || Janelles

Whenever I hear the name Janelle, I automatically start to sing Janelle Janelle. This also happened when I stumbled on the self-titled debut of Janelles. Given their sound, it isn’t all that far-fetched to assume Janelles found their name in that song by The Queers. Bubblegummy pop punk? Yes! Brazil’s female answer to The Yum Yums? I guess! Janelles sure scratch that itch for quality and fun pop punk with songs like Teimosia, Sozinho de Você, Pelo Menos Uma Noite, and the surfy Rotina e Caféina.

Janelles are a pragmatic band. Because the four members live across different parts of Brazil, they write and record in their respective cities, sending each other the recordings. For a long distance band, they sure sound like a tight unit. I have no idea whether a physical release is in the works, but I’m really digging what Janelles have created with this batch of tunes. Janelles don’t appear to have a Bandcamp or Soundcloud page right now, but you can find their music on Spotify, or listen to the full record via this Youtube playlist.
