Sweden’s Cut City technically are a post punk band. But with their excellent Rage At The Badlands EP, their 2022 return after an hiatus, they teased that they may actually be a punk rock band in disguise. Well, they drop the mask completely on their new full length Honeymoon At The Barricades. It is an anthemic punk rock record (even with some hardcore tendencies) that strikes the right balance between sand paper and melody. Not the straightforward kind though, Cut City (David, Magnus, Max and Oskar) are a talented bunch of musicians that can make familiar chord progressions sound fresh and exciting. And how great is Cut City’s singer, and what a perfect fit for these tunes? And, how inviting are those harmonies?
Honeymoon At The Barricades is a dynamic and powerful record that is blowing my mind more and more with every play.
