New album: Buzz Killjoy || Critically Acclaimed

“I just wanna be on TV.” I keep singing these six words. Not because it’s true, far from it. It’s part of an earworm that entered my brain sometime last Friday, and it’s stuck. More specifically, it’s a line from one of the eleven songs on Buzz Killjoy’s Critically Acclaimed album. Buzz Killjoy is actually Anthony Kapfer, a comedian slash musician who is insanely productive. Musically, he operates in an universe habitated by the likes of Weird Al, They Might Be Giants, Cheekface and Flight Of The Conchords. He usually releases music as Anthony Kapfer, but I think I like the kind of music he writes under the Buzz Killjoy moniker the most. It’s modern powerpop that is upbeat and above all sugary and addictive. Kapfer does most of the work on Critically Acclaimed, with some help by Jonathan Bates, Todd Morse (H2O, Juliette and the Licks), Ricky Wells, Andrew Saxena, Aaron “P-Nut” Wills, and Amber Irish.
