New album: The Vumms || Grow Up

Cleveland quartet The Vumms make quite the impression with their full length debut Grow Up. It has ten songs that jump back and forth between indie rock and garage pop, and a talented band displaying a variety of skills and styles. Opener Maybe, I Guess has the suspension built up and subtle use of trumpet – never a bad idea – of a veteran indie rock band. Other songs like Mr. Pranzaram have the hunger and energy of a band of youngsters. To my ears, The Vumms particularly hit the sweet spot when they take a ramshackle rockin’ approach to infectious ’60s pop melodies. Listen to standouts On The Ceiling or Mary for example. And If I is another excellent timeless pop song played through the ears, fingers and vocal chords of a garage band. If you’ve ever wondered what The Zombies would’ve sounded like if they were a ’00s indie rock band, The Vumms got you covered.
