With Life is Pain Idiot (2021), Indiana punk outfit extraordinaire Liquids recorded what I believe to be one of the best punk records of late. This week, the band makes a surprise return with a collection of “lost and new songs.” You can tell, because the record is incoherent and all over the place is terms of sound quality. But if you are a fan of Liquids it will all sound like you’d expect and hope for. There are lightspeed trashpunk tracks, ’77 punk on speed, high octane r’n’r garagepunk and there is a quality cover: John Mellencamp’s Ain’t Even Done With The Night.
Not sure we should see Songs as a teaser for a new album, fan service or occupational therapy for the band, but I’ll take it just the same.
