Any day Martha (Durham, UK) release new music is a good day in my book. Please Don’t Take Me Back, which is out now through Dirtnap Records and Specialist Subject Records, is album #4 for the band. Like its precursors it’s a must for music fans who like their punk full of pop and twee sensibilities. While it’s tempting to rank the new record relative to the other releases in the band’s discography, Martha have yet to release a record I don’t like. Please Don’t Take Me Back is no exception to the consistently great output.
If there is any noticable difference with the band’s past releases is that the new record is even more unashamedly pop. We wrote previously about album opener Beat Perpetual, which still is one the catchiest songs I’ve heard this year. From that moment on, Martha is firing on all cylinders. Indie punk doesn’t get much better and more likeable than Martha. To top it off are those delightful British accents. Martha, keep doing what you do. We’ll be listening.
