New album: Vintage Crop || Kibitzer

Kibitzer is “a Yiddish term for a spectator, usually one who offers (often unwanted) advice or commentary.” I feel there is a message behind Vintage Crop’s decision to name their fourth record Kibitzer. And given the abundance of opinions and meddling with each other’s lives in today’s society, I am going to keep this one short and positive.

Four albums in, I have yet to find a Vintage Crop record I don’t like. The Aussie band keep evolving with each new record, constantly refining their stop-start talk singing punk. On Kibitzer, Vintage Crop rely more on melody and songwriting and less on cool guitar riffs – don’t worry, there is no shortage of killer riffs on the record. Kibitzer sounds less frantic and more varied, there is more breathing room in these songs. I would almost call it a more mature version of Vintage Crop, also because “accepting your limitations and taking pride in your work are key themes on Kibitzer.” But the band still has a youthful edge to their sound.

Liking this already after some early spins, and expecting it to enjoying it more with each play. Kibitzer is out now through Anti Fade records & Upset The Rhythm.
