New album: Heart To Gold || Tom

Heart To Gold are a trio from Minneapolis with a heart filled with love divided equally between punkrock and their respective hometowns. The band’s second record is named after their best non-band best friend (Thomas Vescio), although the guy in the album cover is in fact Heart To Gold’s bass player, not Tom.

The press release calls the record “a swaggering, scrappy punk rock love letter to their hometowns and all the glory, pain, conflict, and reward that come from being of a place and a community and seeing both through, even to bittersweet ends.” I agree, Tom is full of fun and scrappy indiepunk by the way of Joyce Manor and The Menzingers, and with a touch of ’90s grunge. Anthemic, loud, and dynamic, Heart To Gold is one of those bands that take punk rock into a modern direction I can get behind.

Tom is out now on Memory Music.
