Steve E. Nix has been a frontrunner in all good things pop punk, garagepunk and powerpop since 2000. Starting out with The Briefs, then switching to The Cute Lepers, eventually reviving The Briefs, I stopped counting the amount of hits Nix penned. For his latest project, Nix is joined by The Famous Lizards, which includes Briefs bassist Kicks, guitarist Emi Pop and drummer Miles Freeborn.
The four song Motorcade EP is a slight departure from Nix’s other projects in the sense that the songs substract some BPM, and add some ’70s glamrock. (Get In The) Motorcade is my favorite track of the four. It’s exhibit A of how Steve E. Nix & The Famous Lizards use their songwriting chops to give the songs just a little more room to breathe and evolve than the average band in this niche of the musical landscape. It’s catchy, it rocks, but it’s also constructed to perfection. Avenue Child is another winner for me, with a guitar lick and vocal attack that complement eachother well and will surely result in some raised fist, headbops and singalongs at the band’s live show.
