Please meet Queen Midas, the Brooklyn, New York-based studio project of Hezekiah Bussey, making a striking debut with the EP Spell of Habit. We get five richly textured songs that blend jangly power pop and hazy indie rock into a thrilling listen, capped off with an acoustic bonus track.

Written in the aftermath of a series of breakups, the lyrics explore queer themes of love, loss, identity, and rejection with disarming honesty. Melancholic vocals lend the material an absorbing intensity, allowing the emotional weight to surface without ever feeling overstated. Opening track Difficult Pose sets the tone perfectly with bright, ringing melodies and magnetic singing.
