Ouma is a garage psych outfit from Minneapolis, Minnesota, featuring Anyone Ever aka Eric Funn (vocals, guitars, melodica), Jesse Peppermints aka Jesse Miller (vocals, guitars, keyboards, toy piano, zither), Hotdog Mike (bass, trombone), and Dizzy Danika (vocals, drums, percussion). They debuted with Mezzanine Meandering two months ago, but since it hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves (and I keep going back to it), I’m sharing it now—better late than never, right?

The album has only six songs, yet clocks in at almost 32 minutes (the closing track accounts for over a third). Musically, it’s a chain collision of styles and influences, full of surprising twists, exciting tempo changes, and theatrical vocal gymnastics. Basically Okay stands out for me, an uplifting adventure with ravishing rhythms and catchy harmonies. A breathtaking introduction to a unique band.
