I first heard Febersyn through last year’s fun and fine Garage Punk Bergen compilation. I’m happy to say the band makes good on their promise by releasing an impressive debut album last Friday.

Opening with Dum Idé (yes, this band sings in Norwegian, but with enough articulation to be able to pick up a word here and there) is a bold move, since it’s not prototypical of Febersyn’s sound, but it is easy to see it as the direction Febersyn is going for in the future. Regardless, it’s an absolute highlight—I just love how the guitar playing and vocal melody complement each other and create the time and space to let the song come to life. Eg ser rødt and Trynet Ditt are more emblematic of Febersyn’s sound. It’s a sound that I’d superficially describe as a mix of The Clash, The Strokes, and Royal Headache. It’s a crunchy, guitar-driven sound with plenty of singalongs and an anthemic quality to them. After that strong opening trio of songs, Får i ulveklær isn’t a perfect record. But part of what makes it so exciting is that it showcases a band unabashedly searching for their own identity. And boy, are they onto something. You just know this band is going places.
