Since 2005, American band Wussy has built up a fairly extensive discography, although it has been a bit quieter in recent years—their last album What Heaven Is Like dates back to 2018. They are now catching up with two EPs—The Great Divide and Cellar Door, both released on 7″ vinyl—and a new full-lengther named after their home base, Cincinnati Ohio. It consists of ten original songs—a total of over 40 minutes long—that float within the quadrangle of indie rock, dream pop, Americana, and shoegaze. It is a rich and layered soundscape with captivating dual vocals and atmospheric pedal steel melodies, blending noise and melancholy—an immersive listening experience.
Cincinnati Ohio, recorded by John Curley and John Hoffman, is out now digitally, on CD and vinyl LP, through Shake It! Records. Featuring Chuck Cleaver (guitar, vocals, piano), Lisa Walker (guitar, vocals, synth), Mark Messerly (bass, accordion) and Joe Klug (drums, percussion, synth), with late Wussy member John Erhardt (pedal steel, guitar), Travis Talbert (pedal steel) and John Hoffman (synth) on select tracks.
Maybe not their best, but still very good.
