The debut mini-album from Austin trio Death Party, Haunted, lands right in time for the Halloween season — a band name and album title made for each other. The cover art hints at something darker, maybe even metal, but don’t be fooled. This is an Alien Snatch! Records release, which means Death Party sound less like they crawled from a crypt and more like they just stumbled out of a garage after a loud, glorious mess of a rehearsal.

Haunted packs eight rockin’, punkin’ garage-pop nuggets onto a 10″. The opener, Make You Mine, starts things off brightly, but much of the record leans into darker moods — fitting for a band called Death Party, though still loaded with hooks. Think somewhere between Mind Spiders and OBN III’s: grimy, catchy, and buzzing with nervous energy.

It’s the kind of record that makes you wish every haunting sounded this fun.
