Tullycraft have always been the cheerleaders of twee punk, waving their indie pop pom-poms with equal parts sincerity and snark. Three decades into their career, the mere announcement of a new Tullycraft LP is enough to send hearts of twee punks fluttering around the globe. Their eighth record (and first in six years), Shoot The Point, is classic Tullycraft through and through: uncomplicated lo-fi production, high-energy tunes with a sparkling, quirky charm, and the complementary vocal interplay of Sean Tollefson and Jenny Mears (those gang vocals never get old).
How can you not fall for a band that builds a chorus around the line Jeanie’s Up Again and Blaring Faith by The Cure? It’s a hit, and while it is far from the only one on Shoot The Point, it’s the best reminder of why this band still matters. Tullycraft, we salute you.
