In a recent interview with Sweet Sweet Music Blog, Clover unveiled a wish list of collaborators that reads like a who’s who of musical legends: Ric Ocasek, Pete Shelley, Ray Davies and Joe Strummer. It says a lot about Clovers musical influences, and all of them converge on The Apocalypse Dream. From the moment the needle hits the vinyl, you’re plunged into a world of relentless pop hooks and unapologetic energy. Even the designated ballad of the record, the ’60s garage girl group leaning Damage Control sounds powerful and seductive. Clover delivers hit after hit, which I guess is what happens when you are this talented, have a staggering 30 songs at your disposal and pick the 10 best – crafting an album that’s as tight-knit as it is explosive. Also of note: The Apocalypse Dream is co-produced by Jonah Falco of Fucked Up and Brandon Welchez of Crocodiles, and mixed by Carlos de la Garza (The Linda Lindas, Paramore) who have packed the infectious melodies in a polished yet crunchy package.
So, if you catch your coworkers lost in their own little world, sporting those unmistakable smiles, don’t be surprised. They’ve just experienced the magic of Kate Clover, and trust me, they won’t be coming back down to earth anytime soon. The Apocalypse Dream is out now through SVR.
