American singer \/ songwriter \/ multi-instrumentalist Liam Kazar has gathered the right musicians around him to find his own voice. He performed with artists like Tweedy, Steve Gunn, and Daniel Johnston. Last year we heard his cover of the Wilco song Sunloathe<\/em> on Uncut’s compilation Wilcovered<\/a><\/em>, and now he has released his own full-length debut album Due North<\/em><\/a>, which features drummer Spencer Tweedy, bassist Lane Beckstrom, keyboardist Dave Curtin, and James Elkington on pedal steel. He wanted to make a record that would be joyful and vulnerable and he succeeded. Although the synths are often more dominant than the guitars, this is still an indie rock album, but then interspersed with soul and country influences and more (compare it to how Unknown Mortal Orchestra mixes different styles). These are ten well-produced, sympathetic, timeless songs by a musician that we’ll hear a lot more from.<\/p>\n
