The title <em data-start=\"111\" data-end=\"119\">Hoopla<\/em> gives that away, though maybe you would not expect it from a band called Weird Nightmare.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"211\" data-end=\"639\">Fronted by Alex Edkins of METZ, <em data-start=\"243\" data-end=\"251\">Hoopla<\/em> is packed with alt power pop goodness. Instead of burying the hooks under layers of noise, Edkins, together with co-producer Jim Eno of Spoon, puts them right out front. The whole record is built around getting to the good parts fast and often, then making them sound huge. Roll-the-windows-down, drive-around-for-no-reason, let-the-chorus-do-the-work kind of stuff. In-your-face catchy.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"641\" data-end=\"900\">While the first half comes out swinging, the second half opens things up a bit more. There\u2019s jangle, a little psych, a little Britpop, and a few deeper dips into the pop archive, including that <em data-start=\"835\" data-end=\"853\">Needles and Pins<\/em> nod at the start of <em data-start=\"874\" data-end=\"899\">If You Should Turn Away<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"902\" data-end=\"985\">This is way too easy to like.
